CURRENT SOCIAL AND CULTURAL TOPICS –TECHNICAL JAPANESE B: PART I–

Objective
  This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to acquire Japanese language proficiency in the field of social sciences. The objective of this course is to equip students with the basic skills required for reading newspaper articles and technical reports written in Japanese. The topic of this course is “Recent Social and Cultural Issues in Japan” including the Japanese politics and economy. This course is for students who have taken Japanese courses and are more or less in the intermediate level for the reason that the medium of instruction as well as reading materials are in Japanese.

Course Outline
  This course is scheduled for 15 weeks. Students will be provided reading materials. At the end of the semester student will take final examination and are expected to make oral presentation as a partial requirement of the course.

Textbook
  No particular textbook will be assigned to the class. Reading materials written in Japanese will be provided for.

  Participation in class 20%
  Assignments 30%
  Final written examination 30%
  Final oral examination 20%
