OSAKA UNIVERSITY SHORT-TERM STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM _ |
Yoji SHIBUTANI, et al. (Faculty of Engineering)
Objective
This course is taught by six professors from the Department of Mechanical, Materials
and Manufacturing Science of the Graduate School of Engineering. It will be
concerned with worldwide technologies spreading from Japan, and also related
principles and backgrounds from the various viewpoints of engineering.
Lecture Outline
DISCOVERY OF CARBON NANOTUBE AND ITS APPLICATION TO ENGINEERING
(Prof. SHIBUTANI, Yoji)
A topic on a carbon nanotube, which was discovered by Sumio Iijima of NEC Corp.,
is taken in this lecture and its recent applications to the engineering field
are especially emphasized.
LASER APPLIED MEASUREMENT IN NANOTECHNOLOGY
(Assoc. Prof. TAKAYA, Yasuhiro)
It is impossible to manufacture almost all high-tech products without Nanotechnology.
An introductory lecture is given on the technical essence of the laser applied
measurement which are indispensable to establish Nanotechnology.
ADVANCED ROBOTICS AND COMPUTER VISION TECHNOLOGIES IN JAPAN
(Assoc. Prof. MIURA, Jun)
This lecture focuses on robotics and computer vision technologies developed
in Japan, which are important in realizing advanced autonomous/automation systems.
BREATHING CERAMICS CONTRIBUTE TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
(Prof. O.-Y.-MATSUO, Shinya)
Ceramics called solid state ionics have been applied to construct the fuel cells
for clean energy production and catalysts for the removal of harmful exhausted
gases. Cations and anions can move swiftly in them, and exchange of gas-species
between ceramics and gases takes place; ceramics are breathing? This lecture
gives an introductory story on the field of ionics that a lot of Japanese researches
have been devoted to.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF PERMANENT MAGNET AND SHAPE MEMORY MATERIALS IN
JAPAN
(Prof. KAKESHITA Tomoyuki)
The lecture deals with the permanent magnet and shape memory materials, which
have been researched and developed in Japan. Also, a basic talk is given on
the magnetism, magnetic properties and the martensitic transformation under
high magnetic field and high pressure.
KEY MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES IN ADVANCED ENGINEERING PRODUCTS -NEW MATERIALS
JOINING & PROCESSING TECHNOLOGIES-
(Prof. NISHIMOTO, Kazutoshi)
The lecture deals with the materials joining & processing technologies in fabricating
industries in Japan. Some relating technical research topics and new trends
of their applications are briefly introduced.
Grading Grading is based on participation and report.
