Course Objective

• To explore key concepts in Translation Studies
• To discuss issues regarding translation of different types of texts

Requirement / Prerequisite
   Students are encouraged to have some knowledge on at least one language besides English. In addition to students who are interested in language and translation, Japanese students who wish to study in English are also welcomed.

Course Content
   In this course, we will explore some of the key concepts and approaches in Translation Studies, which is the research field related to the study of theories and phenomena of translation. In the second half of the course, we will look at issues regarding translating different types of texts. Students are expected to discuss their thoughts on language, translation and cross-cultural communication. Also, students will be encouraged to analyze translations by comparing them with the originals.
