Promoting "Human Rights Education"

Objective
   In the globalized world, we have been aware of "Diversity." In order to understand different cultures and traditions in local, regional and global levels, Human Rights have important roles. In practicing Human Rights, appropriate Education shall be provided to learn "Rights and Duties."
   The aim of this course is to discuss how to find out an effective way to promote "Human Rights Education." Each lesson gives you background information about related topics to discuss your views with both International and Japanese students. At the end of the course, you are expected to create own Human Rights Material.

   1. Introduction (Brief History of Japanese Education)
   2. Interpretation of "Patriotism"
   3. Citizenship Education in England
   4. Democratic Schools in the World
   5. Importance of learning "Rights and Duties"
   6. Examining Right to Education
   7. Universal Declaration of Human Rights
   8. Convention on the Rights of the Child
   9. Human Rights Picture Books
   10-11. Creating own Human Rights material
   12-13. Presentation
   14. Discussing the findings
   15. Summary and Action Plan

Textbooks
   There are no textbooks. You are required to search the key words before the first lesson (Participation, Democratic Education, Citizenship Education, Right to Education, Human Rights)
   There will be handout in each class.

Grading Criteria
   1. Class Attendance (30%)
   2. Participation (30%)
   3. Presentation (40%)
   Please note if you miss more than 3 lessons, you are not able to pass the course.
