Japan and the Afro-Asian countries

(School of Foreign Studies)

Objective
   The purpose of the course is to familiarize the students with "the differences" and "the similarities" between the Afro-Asian countries and Japan, by presenting the instructor's culture-specific views, episodes or experiences, and to exchange opinions as to the cultural factors conducive to harboring them. The course is expected to contribute to enhancing mutual understanding among the participants. The students are encouraged to actively participate in the class activities and express their opinions as well as their own experiences.

Grading
   1. Students taking credits for this course are required to attend the class regularly. There shall be no examination; instead students are required to submit a short essay to Kyoumu-kakari, School of Foreign Studies, (Minoo Campus).
   [A] For the essay, students shall choose one lecture or talk, briefly summarize and discuss it. The essay must be written in English. Use A4 size paper. The body of the essay is to be anywhere between 3,000 to 4,000 words long.
   [B] The title page of the essay must specify:
      a. The course name: International Exchange Course, Autumn 2010.
      b. Your name and e-mail address.
      c. The title(s) of lecture(s) or talk(s) you were interested in.
      d. The name of the lecturer you would like to have your essay evaluated by.
  
   3. Due date: Wednesday, February 9, 2011
   4. Grades: S, A, B, C, or F (<=59).

   If you are caught plagiarizing, you will receive an F for the credit assignment.
