Practicing "Education for International Understanding"

Objective
   This course gives you a brief history of Japanese education including development of "International Understanding." It will give you relevant ideas on how to practice "Education for International Understanding" from the aspect of "Foreign Language Actives," which will officially start in primary education from 2011.
   Through the course, you will not only learn what to teach in the "Education for International Understanding" but also deepen your cultural awareness through interaction with classmates. I expect that both International and Japanese students will have opportunities to find out similarities and differences, and actively share their views in classroom.

   1. Introduction
   2. History of Japanese Education and Development of "Education for International Understanding"
   3. Aim, contents and assessment of "Foreign Language Activities" in Primary Education
   4. Observing Demo-lesson of "Foreign Language Activities"
   5. Discussing the findings from the Demo-lesson
   6. Exchanging your cultures with classmates
   7. Creating Cultural exchange programs for Primary students in groups
   8. Reviewing the aim, contents and assessment of "Foreign Language Activities"
   9. Making a Lesson Plan for Microteaching
   10. Brainstorming the Lesson Plan in a Poster
   11-12. Microteaching
   13. Sharing the findings
   14. Discussing definition of "Education for International Understanding"
   15. Summary

Textbooks
   There are no textbooks. There will be handout in each class.

Grading
   1. Class attendance (30%)
   2. Participation (30%)
   3. Microteaching (40%)
   Please note if you miss more than 3 lessons, you are not able to pass the course.
