OSAKA UNIVERSITY SHORT-TERM STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM _

Creating New World History from Asian and Japanese Perspectives

Shigeru AKITA, et al. (Graduate School of Letters)

Objective
This lecture presents new interpretations of World History, based on the recent development of historiography in World History. We try to reconsider the Western-centered World History, and to deal with the following history of mega-regions and areas: Central-Eurasia, Maritime Asia and Southeast Asia, the British Empire, the United States and modern Japan. We adopt the approach of 'transnational history' or 'global history', to overcome national-history framework and to locate Japanese history within a global perspective.
