6. HOW DO I OBTAIN A STUDENT VISA?
Ryugaku Visa
Before coming to Japan, accepted students need to obtain a "college
student" (Ryugaku) visa, issued by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate, in
their country of residence.
We will send a letter of acceptance to students who are officially
accepted to OUSSEP. At this time, Osaka University will request that the Japanese
Immigration Bureau issue a Certificate of Eligibility for Status of Residence
(CESR) for each students. Only the latter document will serve as proof of status
when applying for a visa, to enter Japan as a student.
The process of obtaining a CESR takes time and the certificate usually does
not come through until early September in the case of the fall enrollment. The
spring enrollment students will get their CESR in early March. We will forward
the CESR by an express courier service to each student's holiday address as
indicated in the OUSSEP Application Form. We often have to make urgent contact
with applicants during the vacation period.
Each applicant should follow the advice of the Japanese diplomatic office in
his/her home country concerning the procedure for obtaining an appropriate visa.
SARS Guidelines
Osaka University will not allow anyone with SARS (Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome) symptoms to enroll in the program. In addition,
Osaka University will not accept students from areas where there is
sufficient reason to suspect the occurance of a SARS outbreak, or
where an outbreak may have occurred. In order to maximize security
across the university, the International Affairs Committee of Osaka
University established a set of guidelines, which can be found in
the OUSSEP application package. Those who apply to OUSSEP must respect
these guidelines. |
