5. HOW DO I GET FINANCIAL AID?

Prospective OUSSEP students are eligible to apply for the following scholarship offered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). However, those who receive financial aid from other sources, worth 80,000 JPY or more, are not eligible to apply for the scholarship from JASSO. A high proportion of the students admitted to OUSSEP in previous academic years were granted the scholarships. Please note that in the present financial climate qualifying for JASSO scholarships has become more difficult, therefore this year JASSO may not offer a sufficient number of scholarships for OUSSEP participants. We naturally welcome students who are prepared to come to OUSSEP without applying for the JASSO scholarship. The total number of students OUSSEP can admit, however, will remain at around 25-30 regardless of the number of students to whom JASSO grants scholarships.

We request applicants to refrain from applying for JASSO scholarships concurrently with other Japanese universities.

JASSO Short-term Student Exchange Promotion Program (Inbound) Scholarship

Qualified students selected by JASSO are provided with the following financial aid.

1. A monthly stipend of 80,000 JPY
OUSSEP students will receive the stipend for the months they spend in Japan.
2. An economy class single journey air ticket* when coming to and leaving Japan (between the international airports nearest to the home and host universities)
3. A settling-in allowance of 25,000 JPY
* JASSO will not cover airport tax.

Tuition Waiver

The tuition fee for the degree courses at Osaka University is currently 14,400 JPY per credit. The fee is liable to change without notice. Students from institutions that have concluded a mutual tuition waiver contract with Osaka University will be granted a tuition waiver.
